Linz Klangwolke 2009 Section 4 - The daylight Parade

This is the fourth section covering the Linz Creature Project. The Daytime Parade.

Roger was invited to Linz by Airan Berg in 2008 to come up with a puppetry concept for Linz to be undertaken during 2009, their year of Cultural Capital of Europe.

On the day of the show "Flut" The City came to a stand-still as the 460 Creatures moved around the streets of Linz. Thousands of delighted spectators took to the streets to watch the spectacle.

Summary:
We asked the people of Linz, Austria, who may never have had access to this kind of creativity, to build a creature and perform at a live show during their own cultural capital year in 2009.

Although we wanted the final performance to be as slick and memorable as we could make it, this project was very much about the process, a chance for non performers to witness the creativity, the excitement and the camaraderie of creating a stage show.

It was a fun and rewarding experience for all.

We built 40 miniature creature models in South Africa. Once we were happy with the shape, movement and simplicity of the animals, we brought art students from Linz to our beautiful part of South Africa for two weeks to help us build the full sized creatures.

They then went back to Linz and became the teachers and motivators for anybody who wanted to participate.
